At the age of eleven I was investigated by the anti-terrorism squad of Scotland Yard. At the age of fourteen I was discovered racing my mum’s pink Jaguar down a British motorway at nearly twice the speed limit. I was fired, axed or let-go from about 30 jobs. I have had two nervous breakdowns, myriad near-death experiences, and a life marred by broken promises and failed relationships.

Then, in 2020 I read an article about ADHD in The Guardian newspaper. Prior to reading the article I had assumed that ADHD was something that only affected children and was surprised to discover that it persisted into adulthood. I began investigating this neurodevelopmental disorder and just five months later I myself was officially diagnosed with severe ADHD by a clinical psychiatrist.

In an attempt to come to terms with that diagnosis, I began looking back at my life and re-examining my past in the light of this new information. This led me to the wealth of scientific research into ADHD and I began comparing the results of those research papers with the events, experiences and eventual outcomes of my life.

I began writing down those findings and they eventually turned into my book.

One year later, the book is finished and now available in eBook format on Apple and Amazon. Part memoir, part detective story, the book is aimed at the millions of undiagnosed people with ADHD who have no idea why their lives are train-wrecks, but are searching for answers and also their car keys. My book is a brutally honest dissection of a life unknowingly shaped by ADHD and my search for meaning in the science behind this misunderstood neurodevelopmental disorder.

I’m a Generation X, British/Australian, failed journalist and retired DJ, with a criminal record, an appalling driving history and the most understanding partner in recorded history. I spent the first 34 years of my life in the UK and the last 20 in semi-rural Australia proving that moving 12,000 miles around the planet will not improve your career prospects when you have ADHD.

After leaving college in 1990 with a degree in English and American Studies, I landed a job with Future Publishing in Bath. I was employed there for five years (working my way up from staff writer to editor) before being made redundant. I spent the next decade working as a freelance magazine journalist in the computer games and technology sector. In 2005 I emigrated to Australia with my wife and young son.

I have started writing about 90 books in my life, but this is the first one I've ever properly finished, and that was primarily thanks to the stimulant medication (Ritalin) that was prescribed for my ADHD.
